🌿 Why Outdoor Play Matters: Building Healthy, Happy Children at Excel Child Care Nursery & Pre School 🌞
At Excel Child Care Services Nursery, we believe that some of the most meaningful learning happens when little feet hit the grass and tiny hands get a little muddy! As spring blooms around us, we’re taking the opportunity to highlight something we’re deeply passionate about — the power of outdoor play.

Why Is Outdoor Play So Important?
In a world where children are increasingly surrounded by screens and structured schedules, unstructured outdoor play provides the balance they need for healthy growth. It supports all areas of development:
1. Physical Development
Climbing, running, jumping, and balancing help children build strength, coordination, and confidence in their bodies. Outdoor play promotes physical fitness and helps reduce childhood obesity.

2. Emotional Wellbeing
Fresh air, natural light, and open space have a calming effect. Outdoor environments can reduce stress and anxiety, boost mood, and allow children to explore emotions freely.
🔗 Mental Health Foundation – Nature and mental health
3. Social Skills
Whether they’re building a den together, sharing a swing, or taking turns in the sandpit, outdoor play encourages teamwork, cooperation, and communication.

4. Imagination & Creativity
Nature is the ultimate open-ended toy box. Sticks become magic wands, leaves become fairy wings, and every tree has a story to tell. Outdoor play nurtures creativity in a way no classroom ever could.
🔗 Early Education – The value of play
5. Connection to Nature
Children who spend time outdoors develop a deep appreciation for the environment. They’re more likely to become responsible, eco-conscious individuals later in life.

What We’re Doing at Excel
We’re lucky to have our own outdoor space where children can explore in all seasons — rain or shine! Our team plans daily outdoor activities that are age-appropriate, sensory-rich, and led by the children’s natural curiosity. From planting seeds to building bug hotels, our little learners are busy discovering the world around them.
We also promote free-flow play, allowing children to move between indoor and outdoor spaces at their own pace — because we know that not all children learn the same way.
How You Can Support at Home
- Try to get outside every day, even if it’s just a walk to the local park.
- Let your child lead the play — they don’t need toys; nature provides plenty!
- Don’t worry about mess — muddy trousers often mean happy, engaged children.
- Talk about what you see, hear and smell together to build vocabulary and curiosity.
Final Thoughts
At Excel, we’re committed to nurturing whole, happy children — and outdoor play is a key part of that. So next time you see us splashing in puddles or digging in the garden, just know that big learning is happening in the smallest of moments.
Here’s to more outdoor adventures! 🌈
With love,
The Excel Child Care Services Nursery Team
